WordPress website maintenance
A WordPress website needs care after launch: software updates, backups and checks of important features. I provide agreed maintenance work for business websites and WooCommerce stores. Before starting, we agree what I will check, how often and which tasks will be discussed separately.
Maintenance based on the site’s actual condition
I first review the WordPress version, theme, plugins, hosting and existing backups. This helps establish which access is needed, whether paid licences are involved and which dependencies matter. When taking over a site, it’s also important to understand previous custom changes so an update does not unintentionally remove them.
The maintenance scope follows the website’s features. A simple service website and a store with payments may need different checks. If a system has been neglected or needs initial repairs, I assess that work separately from ongoing maintenance.
What can we include?
- WordPress, theme and plugin updates, after assessing compatibility with the solutions in use.
- Creating backups or checking their status under the agreed storage and access arrangements.
- Checks of key pages, navigation, links and the contact form.
- Agreed security checks and assessment of technical problems that are found.
- Small technical changes, where their scope is explicitly included in the agreement.
Why isn’t clicking “Update” enough?
Updates can change how a plugin or theme behaves. It matters to have an appropriate backup and check the agreed features afterwards. Having a backup does not by itself prove that a restore will work. If a restore test is required, we agree its environment and scope separately.
When a problem is found, I first investigate its cause. A larger feature repair, cleaning an infected site, an external service failure or a hosting migration may be a separate task. Maintenance does not promise that a site will never fail or will be completely protected against every threat.
Clear scope and responsibilities
The proposal states the work frequency, included tasks, how to report problems and how extra work is agreed. Paid licences, the domain, hosting and external service fees are not automatically part of maintenance. We arrange access through an appropriate secure method; you don’t need to send passwords through the contact form.
New pages, copywriting and design changes are discussed as a separate scope. If you want to change the website itself, see website redesign. If you’re planning a new project, start with WordPress website development or an online store.
At the start, we also discuss who makes changes to the website and how those changes are communicated. This matters when several people edit content or other providers manage integrations. A clear process helps establish what changed before a problem appeared.
Frequently asked questions
Can you maintain a site built by someone else?
Yes, after an initial review. We need to assess its condition, the solutions used and access before agreeing the work. Any repairs required first will be identified separately.
Do you maintain WooCommerce stores?
Yes. We agree product, cart, checkout and integration checks around the particular store. Managing orders and adding products are not automatically included in technical maintenance.
How do I find out the maintenance price?
Send the website address, its important features and the work you need. Once I’ve clarified its condition, I’ll propose a scope and price. Let’s discuss your WordPress maintenance.
